Témiscamingue

Tembec’s Témiscamingue Forest Resource Management (FRM) group plans forestry operations and manages the forest to supply the Tembec sawmill in Bearn and the TKL woodchips plant in Abitibi-Témiscamingue.

The Témiscamingue FRM group conducts forest operations as a timber supply guarantee holder for timberin Forest Management Units (FMU) in Témiscamingue (FMUs 081-51 and 081-52). Under the former forest regime, the group was responsible for developing the General Forest Management Plan, which described and mapped management operations and the main infrastructure in the five-year plan.

As of April 1, 2013, under the new forest regime, the Quebec department of natural resources (Ministère des Ressources naturelles, MRN), now known as the Ministry of Forests, Wildlife and Parks (Ministère des Forêts, de la faune et des parcs, MFFP) is responsible for drafting the tactical integrated forest management plan. The MFFP is also responsible for developing the operational forest management plan (PAFIO 2013-2018) in conjunction with the local supply guarantee holders. Based on the PAFIO, Tembec schedules and conducts its annual forest operations in a responsible manner, including road construction, harvesting and transporting wood to the mills. Tembec ensures that forest operations are conducted safely, in compliance with applicable laws and regulations, and with respect for the environment.
